Arthurian legends?

I really really need help! Why might the arthurian legends have been originated in the time they were? Why were they revived in the suceeding times they were and why do they endure? How do the elements of supernatural and religious imagery impact each of the times the stories had revivals? I don't need complete answers but I have no clue where to start or the slightest idea of an answer. Please help.
