Why do my tomatoe plants wilt?

"nd yr, my plants have withered,they form loads of fruit then suddenly wilt, they are planted in the ground,but this year I dug right down & replaced with new compost,I checked for bugs at root but none,I watered correctly, At 1 side I have plants in tubs & they are absolutley fine,(Still need sun)Advise plz, LIZ
