Christian people, what do you think was going through the minds of your ancestors when...?

As far as I know, none of my ancestors ever went to North America. I know that some of them were crazy Scottish mercenaries though. I wouldn't have a clue what they were thinking. Perhaps they wished they had something on under their kilts.
