Why are universities sending my 14 yr old recruitment letters? How do they even know who she is?

I was just curious to find out why all these universities have our address? My daughter has gotten letters from: University of Chicago, Rice university and others( i threw them out). She took her psats in the beginning of the year. Could that be why? Do universities send them out to all freshmen?
