Extracting organic layer without being dried?

In the extraction exp., the procedure requires drying the organic layer, in which Naphthalene dissolves, before the organic layer is distilled to obtain the Naphthalene. I think that it is still OK if the orangic layer were not dried. Here is the scenario: The solubility of Naphthalene is ~40mg / 1L water. Some of the Naphthalene dissolves in water while majority of Naphthalene dissolves in Methylene choloride. Even if the distillation removes Methylene Choloride only, the water could be remove later by air dry. Am I correct?
